The turn-key smart solutions integrator Vegacomp Consulting conducts the first analysis of the public parking spaces in Romania, and the national report is of roughly 1.2 million public spaces for the 7 million vehicles registered in Romania at the end of last year.

“The first three areas and cities, by number of public parking spaces, are Sector 2, Sector 3 and Iasi, while the first cities, in terms of revenues obtained from parking lots are, following the leader Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Oradea and Sibiu. Moreover, the ranking of the most efficient cities by monetizing parking lots is surprisingly led by Odoreheiu Secuiesc, with 1,591 lei/ parking space/ year, followed by Timișoara, with 689 lei and Cluj, with 613 lei. By way of collecting revenue, we can say that cash payments dominate, but the trend of growth towards electronic payments is visible, with 49 cities where parking can be paid through a mobile application, compared to the 19 cities in the country with installed parking meters,” said Cornel Bărbuț, CEO, Vegacomp Consulting.

The methodology of this report consists in collecting data from town halls, but also verifying this information with other third-party sources: media and suppliers. Vegacomp Consulting representatives sent inquiries to 324 city halls in Romania, of which only 248 cities responded to the request, not directly, but often in two or even three rounds of returning requests for information. For Bucharest, seven mayoralties were included in the report. This document includes information gathered from town halls and other relevant sources, between April 9 and September 15, 2020.

According to the report, the annual tariff for residential parking varies between 30 and 100 lei in small localities, respectively between 70 and 150 lei in large cities. For subscriptions, rental prices vary between 15 lei / month and 1,000 lei / month. The hourly occupancy rate for paid public parking varies between 1 and 5 lei, except for Bucharest and Cluj, where the maximum limit reaches 10 lei.

The total number of on-street parking spaces is 403,148, of which: 128,735 are paid, 252,742 are free, 13,728 are for people with disabilities, 124 are for electric cars. The total number of off-street parking spaces is 155,052, and the number of smart parking spaces is 9,742.

Also, only 16 cities have public maps of their parking lots, while in 49 cities one can pay for parking by application, in 47 cities one can pay for parking by SMS, in 53 cities one can pay for parking at DGITL – although it should have been possible in all cities, in 11 cities you can pay the parking fee through ghiseul.ro, in 9 cities you can pay the parking fee only in cash, at the person employed to manage the parking, and in 19 cities in the country there are parking meters.
